PCP Addiction Side Effects

PCP addiction is an enormously dangerous condition that stems from use of phencyclidine for a prolonged period of time and/or in large quantities. Sometimes dealers of this drug spray PCP to the leaves of marijuana to achieve and modify the euphoric feelings brought about by smoking marijuana. As a result, PCP is available in many places. This has also contributed to the number of addictions around the world.

PCP abuse and addiction leads to a number of physical side effects. Originally made for use as an anesthetic, PCP has strong sedative properties even when taken in small quantities. Abusers feel euphoria, in addition to several other effects including hallucinations and confusions. The users feel as if they have been taken to imaginary worlds outside of their physical beings. When used in higher quantities, users experience side effects like agitation, nervousness, panic, and, sometimes, psychosis or paranoia may occur. Ingesting large quantities of PCP is very harmful; the nature of PCP can result in respiratory complications and recurrent, severe seizures.

PCP addiction brings about both short-range and longstanding emotional effects, leading to confused thinking. Some addicts experience similar symptoms as those experienced by schizophrenic patients. Addiction to this drug can result in feelings of dissociation from your surroundings.  When this side effect is coupled with anxiety, panic, paranoia or hostility, it leads to unpredictable and violent behaviors. Sometimes, users of the drug become overly aggressive and, in the process, end up injuring the people around them and themselves.

These emotional side effects can be prolonged or even persist long after the PCP use has been abandoned due to permanent effects of the drug on the user’s brain. Some of the long term PCP side effects include persistent topsy-turvy thinking, schizophrenia-like symptoms, and speech complications. PCP addicts suffer absolute damage to the sections of the brain acted upon by the drug.

Many experts consider that PCP use leads to increased physical strength to be a myth. The reality is that the effect of the drug causes tolerance to pain and the dissociation of the user’s mind from the physical environment. That’s why addicts should be closely monitored when under the influence of the drug to prevent chances of harming themselves and the people around them.

One of the most risky properties of PCP is that it is difficult to predict the effects it can cause to a particular user. It is true that even those users who take PCP on a regular basis may not be able to guess the effects it can bring to their bodies or the state in which it leaves their mind. This is also true even though you keep administering the drug and the same quantity in the same way.  However, this is not very possible because PCP is illegal and addicts take the drug wherever they find it.

It is important to ask for professional medical attention in case you or a family member is suffering from PCP addiction woes.
